Pioneering Cognitive Health Through Science & Mycology

At Host Defense® Mushrooms™, we believe that the ancient intelligence of mushroom mycelium holds the key to modern wellness, mental clarity, and neurological support. Founded by world-renowned mycologist Paul Stamets, our mission for over 40 years has been to build a bridge between people and fungi.

Our flagship cognitive support supplement—Host Defense® Lion’s Mane Capsules—represents decades of rigorous scientific research, sustainable organic farming, and innovative extraction methods. Designed to support brain health, memory, focus, and nerve growth factor (NGF), our Lion’s Mane is grown, processed, and packaged with uncompromising quality standards right here in the USA.

The Science of Host Defense® Lion’s Mane

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a striking mushroom long celebrated for its unique ability to support the brain and nervous system. Unlike typical supplements that rely solely on mass-imported materials, Host Defense focuses on the most metabolically active phase of the fungal lifecycle: mushroom mycelium.

Why Mushroom Mycelium?

Mycelium is the intricate, root-like network of fungi. It acts as the immune system and digestive engine of the mushroom, producing a vast spectrum of novel compounds that are not present in the fruiting body alone.

  • Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) Support: Mycelium is rich in erinacines, specialized compounds scientifically proven to support nerve growth factor and neural health.

  • Immune & Digestive Support: Packed with active beta-glucans, tissue-supporting enzymes, and prebiotic fibers that nourish gut microbiota and support balanced immunity.

  • Sustainably Cultivated: Grown on an organic brown rice substrate in certified clean-room facilities in Washington State, ensuring complete purity and absence of heavy metals or environmental toxins.

Our Uncompromising Quality Standards

When choosing a functional mushroom supplement, transparency, purity, and scientific validation matter. Host Defense sets the industry benchmark for safety, efficacy, and environmental stewardship:

  • Certified Organic: 100% of our mushroom mycelium and fruitbodies are grown on our own USDA Organic farm.

  • Non-GMO Project Verified: Formulated without genetically modified organisms, synthetic fillers, or artificial binders.

  • Bee Friendly™ & Environmentally Sustainable: A portion of every purchase supports research into preserving honeybee populations and protecting forest ecosystems.

  • Independent Third-Party Tested: Every batch undergoes rigorous laboratory testing to verify identity, potency, and freedom from contaminants, heavy metals, pesticides, and adulterants.
